What is Pharmacy Compounding?

Customizing Medications and Their Dosage Forms

to Address Individual Health Problems and Concerns.

Dosage Trained Compound pharmacists prepare specialized medications that require chemicals and equipment that are not readily available in most pharmacies. Our pharmacists have extensive additional training in compounding techniques to ensure that our patients receive a quality pharmaceutical-grade product. Our support network generates a constant exchange of ideas, innovations and techniques involving compounding and includes Ph.D. chemists and pharmacists who research the feasibility of new formulations.

THE TRIAD RELATIONSHIP

The compounding pharmacist works with the physician and patient to customize medications to

meet specific needs that are not met by commercially-available medications.

Compounding Pharmacists Make Medications that are:

  • Not available commercially or the physician wants an alternative dose

  • Compounded in alternative dosage forms (suppositories, topical pain medications etc.)

  • Flavored for improved patient compliance (children and pets)

  • Free of ingredients that might cause sensitivity or allergic reactions

COMPOUNDING SERVICES

Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) Services

BHRT is the use of supplemental doses of hormones that have a chemical structure identical to the hormones that the human body produces naturally. BHRT is most often used to address the physiological changes a woman encounters as she approaches and progresses through menopause. However, hormone treatment may also be used to help menstrual cramps, infertility, irregular periods, endometriosis, fibrocystic breasts and in men, the symptoms of

andropause. However, you are more than just your sex hormones (Estrogen, Progesterone, and Testosterone). For this reason we supply saliva testing for the following: Cortisol, PregnenoloneInsulin, DHEA, and 17-Hydroxyprogesterone.
Be balanced my friend!!!

PEDIATRIC COMPOUNDING

Being a parent is challenging enough and caring for a sick child is just one of the many challenges that parents face. Most kids don’t like taking medicine and to make matters worse, many medications are not commonly available in appropriate dosage forms, strengths, or flavors to suit the needs of children. We can customize pediatric medicines for respiratory disorders, pain relief, oral thrush, skin disorders, diaper rash, nausea, and much more. We’ll work with you and your doctor to formulate medicines that will meet the ever changing needs of your child. We love the kids!!!

OTHER COMPOUNDING SERVICES

The compounding services listed above do not encompass every service that we provide here at Quality of Life Pharmacy and Health, Inc., other services include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Dermatology

  • Hospice Care

  • Sports Medicine

  • Wound Care

  • Adrenal & Thyroid dysfunction

VETERINARY COMPOUNDING

Medicating your pets can be very difficult and this is where veterinary compounding comes in handy. Veterinary compounding is the process of preparing pet medications in specific dosage forms or strengths and taste that is most effective and tolerable for your pet. This helps to decrease the resistance in administering medication and helps your pets recover back to health as fast as possible. Just imagine your pet suffering from an illness but continues to refuse or spit out their medication. We feel your pain and can prepare your pets medication in a topical ointment and all you have to do is put your pet in their favorite position in your lap and while petting, rub the ointment into the inner ear of your pet.

PAIN MANAGEMENT COMPOUNDING

Many commonly prescribed, commercially available pain relief medications help the symptoms associated with chronic conditions such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, migraine headaches, and other nerve and muscle pain, but they can also result in unwanted side effects such as drowsiness, stomach irritation, constipation and kidney problems. Pain relief can be accomplished through compounding. Topical pain application bypasses the liver and kidney and works directly on the affected areas of pain. In addition, multiple medications can be combined into one dosage form to address the various sources of pain for example, nerve pain, muscle spasms, inflammation, etc. Improved Quality of Life!!!
